Create Loyal Relationships with Customers

Written by: Jenn Johnson

We often get emails from dealers asking for tips on things they can do to bring in business during the slow season. We have a handful of ideas but our go-to suggestion is always the same, tell past customers ‘thank you.’ A simple ‘thank you for your business’ call will go a long way and 9 times out of 10, they’ll tell their family and friends of the nice gesture.

Here’s the trick, don’t sell them anything. Simply call the customers you saw  3-4 days ago and let them know how grateful you are for their business.  Leave a voicemail if they don’t answer and keep it short and sweet. Simply let them know you’ve checked in to say hello and wanted to say thank you for their business.

Tip: If it’s past the 4 day period, let it go. They may have forgotten they even stopped by and the call could create some confusion. The 3-4 day window is small but will help narrow down your calls. It doesn’t take too much time to call a handful of people either. Set aside 15-25 minutes to call a few customers. Most of the time the customer won’t answer and the voicemail shouldn’t take longer than 35 seconds. Encourage your staff to do the same and I bet they’ll be happy to sit down for a bit too!

It’s very rare these days for businesses to reach out to you and give you a thank you call, which is even more of a reason to jump on the thank you bandwagon. The foundation of creating a lasting impression with customers is to be real and to be genuine. Thank you calls are very high on the genuine list.

Our solution to your slow season problem is to work all season to create real relationships with customers. Your slow season will slowly diminish and you’ll be busy all season!
